Architect Olubukunola Atinuke Ejiwunmi is the First Female President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects and a one-time Senior Lecturer and Head of Department at the Lagos State Polytechnic, Isolo. A native of Esa-Oke in Osun State, she holds a B.Sc. (Hons) degree and a Masters degree in Archiitecture, both from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She also holds the N.I.A.PPE and is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Architects and member, Nigerian Institute of Management.
From a modest beginning at Modulor Group of Architects as a Pupil Architect in 1970 to serving at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO) Office Complex and later veering into academics, Olubukunola’s over four decades career has seen her rack up an ocean of experience working in both private and public sectors. Her illustrious career also includes serving with the Lagos State Public Service as Chief Architect and later as Assistant Director, heading the Building, Architectural Services and Quantity Surveying (BASQS) Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Transport. In that capacity, she handled a number of key projects for the Ministries of Education, Health, Information, Old Home Affairs and Tourism (now Homes Affairs and Culture), Youth, Sport and Social Development.
Arc. Olubukunola has carried out several projects for the Anglican diocese, which include church buildings and vicarages. She was also among the building team at the onset of the construction of the Redeemed Camp at KM 46 Lagos-Ibadan expressway and runs her own Architectural firm, Atinuke Ejiwunmi & Partners, till date. She also sits as Managing Director of Promaco Associates Ltd, a firm of Project Management and Engineering Consultants, which she joined since retirement from the Civil Service.
Arch. Olubukunola is generally regarded as an iconic professional of substance in the highly respected Architectural community in Nigeria. A widely traveled person, she has attended many local and international conferences. She is a charming personality whose interests other than her endearing profession include interacting with people, dancing, decorating, cooking, gardening and engaging in her church community and charitable activities. She is married to the very distinguished former Deputy Vice Chancellor, Ogun State University (OSU) and Professor of medicine, Prof. Adedayo Babalola Ejiwunmi. Together they are blessed with children and grandchildren.
